I believe that "below" is as important as "above", and that trans-disciplinarity can also be interpreted as an invitation to explore the foundation layers below disciplines. An image that I use is of a seismic activity recorder, which recognizes and transcribes movement in the earth's crust even from the other side of the world, via transduction. Building a house on sand is a great way to cut yourself off from all information about the rest of the world that is constantly transmitted via the earth beneath your feet. Building a house on rock gives access to that information, connecting you strongly to all other parts of the disciplinary world.
I'm interested in your thoughts.
